This is one of several extracts from the Irish section of A New Oarsman’s Guide to the Rivers and Canals of Great Britain and Ireland edited by F E Prothero and W A Clark: a Cruising Club Manual published by George Philip & Son, London, in 1896.
As far as I can tell, Prothero himself wrote most of the material about Irish waterways.
If only the promoters of the recent restoration of the Strabane Canal had heeded his wise words ….
