L+M Keating test 3 … and OSI

I think I’ve now fixed the problem with the link to the latest set of pics of L+M Keating operations [thanks, Martin]. Please let me know of it’s not working.

Another problem has been reported to me from the UK: that folk there may not be able to see OSI maps [on the OSI site, I mean, not the extracts I use here with OSI permission].

I would be grateful if folk some outside Ireland could check this link and let me know (by Commenting below) whether they can (a) see the Ordnance Survey map of Mountshannon, Co Clare, and (b) switch to the Historic 6″ and Historic 25″ maps. That would help me to identify the problem. Thanks.

Page views …

… went over 300,000 yesterday.

Clever chaps …

those Danes and Belfast folk at Harland and Wolff (which is on the Lagan, so this is of inland waterways interest).

More Northern Ireland engineering ingenuity here.

Kerry nitwits

See the Irish Times and the Guardian.

Download your copy of Kerry County Council’s road safety calendar here [PDF].

Not that this piece of idiocy will ever be passed but, if it is, tourists should avoid Co Kerry, lest they be mangled by a Kerry farmer, pissed as a newt, wobbling around the roads in his tractor.

What qualities — apart from being a publican — do you need to be elected in Co Kerry?

Competition arrives

The number of Shannon-side operations holding Marked Fuel Traders’ Licences [XLS] has doubled since last week: Ciaran Fallon of Rooskey is joined by Quigley’s Marina at Killinure. Congratulations to Brian Quigley.

So there are now two licence-holders on the Shannon. Still no sign of IBRA members (save that Quigleys supplies Waveline) but no doubt they will appear soon.

E&OE: the list now covers 170 pages and I may have missed someone. If so, sorry; let me know and I’ll post the information.

L+M Keating again

Here are some photos of recent L+M Keating projects.

WI mooring locations batch 5

A press release today says:

The fifth set of areas to offer the E.M.P includes locations in Dublin on the Royal Canal at Blanchardstown as well as Thomastown, Co Westmeath.  On the Grand Canal Ballycowan, Derries and Gallen in Co Offaly will open. In addition Athy and Ballyteigue both in Co Kildare and St Mullins in Co Carlow which are all on the Barrow will also open for applications on the 21st January.

As far as I can see, the rest of the text of the press release is standard information that we already knew.

To see exactly what locations will be covered in batch 5, you’ll have to check the WI website on 21 January 2013.

Dredgers

I’ve moved my pics of dredgers to a new page and added a few more.

Rescue boats on Irish inland waterways

I’ve moved my photos of rescue boats to a new page and added photos of some more services. Still a lot missing, though.

Dublin

Dublin City Public Libraries have some nice photos available online. The section on the Port of Dublin includes 1926 aerial photos of the Guinness wharf and of Spencer Dock (not busy) and Grand Canal Dock (including the section beyond the railway line, now filled in). There is also a photo of a steam barge at the Guinness wharf. In the Commercial Dublin section, I saw two businesses beside the Grand Canal, Ever Ready Batteries at Portobello and Gordon’s Fuels at Harold’s Cross.
